Actor Seol Kyung-gu will take on his first doctor role in his career in the new series Hyperknife.
On the 19th, Disney+ released stills of Seol Kyung-gu as Choi Deok-hee, a neurosurgeon, in the new original series Hyperknife (written by Kim Sun-hee, directed by Kim Jung-hyun).
Hyperknife is a medical thriller that depicts the intense confrontation between Seok (played by Park Eun-bin), a once-promising genius doctor who falls from grace, and her former mentor Deok-hee (played by Seol Kyung-gu), who is responsible for her downfall.
Seol Kyung-gu plays Choi Deok-hee, the world’s top neurosurgeon with exceptional skill, who cruelly turns away his most beloved disciple, Seok. This role marks his debut in portraying a doctor.
In the series, Choi Deok-hee unexpectedly reunites with Seok after a six-year separation, leading to a complex and nuanced evolution in their relationship, which adds depth to the plot.
The released character stills show Seol Kyung-gu’s intense charisma, including a cold and furious expression while looking at Seok, and a chilling face that seems unwilling to open up to anyone, further raising expectations for the role.
Seol Kyung-gu described his character, saying, “I thought of him as a person who is disconnected from society except for his field. I tried to catch the more human, awkward sides of the character to give it variation.”
Park Eun-bin, who plays Jeong Seok, shared her thoughts on working with Seol Kyung-gu, saying, “He was a reliable partner, and we had a great time working together,” heightening anticipation for their acting chemistry.
Hyperknife will be released on March 19.
