Producer Sun Hye-yoon shared the story of how she ended up marrying broadcaster Shin Dong-yup.
On the afternoon of the 19th, a video titled “The Full Story of Every Incident Told by Dong-yup’s Closest Insider” was uploaded on the YouTube channel “Hyungsoo is K.Will”. In the video, Sun Hye-yoon, an MBC producer and Shin Dong-yup’s wife, appeared as a guest. Sun married Shin Dong-yup in 2006, and they have one son and one daughter together.
In the video, Sun Hye-yoon talked about how a misunderstanding led Shin Dong-yup to make a move on her. She explained, “Producer Sung Chi-kyung married a junior female PD from MBC. Shin didn’t know about her, and since there were so few female PDs at the time—and I was the only unmarried one—he thought it was me when he heard that a junior female PD was getting married.”
When K.Will asked, “What made him think, ‘I should’ve married her, but I missed my chance’?”, Sun replied, laughing, “He never said it seriously, but in passing, he once said it was because I was pretty.”
She continued, “He could’ve just called me directly, but he called while I was on a blind date,” recalling the moment. “At that time, I was on a date with an incredibly handsome guy. I had been on over 100 blind dates before, but he was the best—almost Jo In-sung level. He was like a prince sitting in front of me, and I thought, ‘Finally, someone perfect for me.’”
“But senior colleagues kept calling me, and I thought I might have made a mistake with some documents. When I finally picked up, they were all drunk, asking, ‘Hey, what are you doing?’ I replied, ‘I’m meeting someone right now.’ Then they shouted, ‘Hye-yoon’s on a blind date!’”
She added, “The seniors insisted I come over quickly, but I told them, ‘I’m on a date with the most amazing person I’ve ever met.’ The guy I was seeing was an office worker, so we agreed to meet again the following week. But then I was invited to Shin Dong-yup’s house that night, where the seniors were gathered. While having dinner, they told me that he liked me.”
Sun wrapped up the story, saying, “That’s why they were so eager for me to come over. They even gave me a tour of the house and joked, ‘What do you think of this place? If you want it, it could be yours.’ Basically, the seniors played matchmaker,” causing laughter.
