Kim Doo-young Leaves Korea and Immigrates to Cebu with His Family… “Not Retirement, but a Challenge”

Comedian Kim Doo-young has announced that he has immigrated to Cebu, Philippines.

On the 5th, Kim Doo-young posted on his Instagram, saying, “Some of you may already know, and some may not, but this evening (the 5th), my family and I are leaving South Korea to start a new life abroad.”

He continued, “Please support me as I embark on the second chapter of my life, which I have dreamed of for a long time. My family and I will live happily and well. I wish all of you happiness and good health always.”

Regarding his decision to immigrate, Kim Doo-young explained, “As I mark my 20th year in the broadcasting industry this year, I have come to realize that I want to escape the rapidly changing media environment and the overwhelming flood of fast-consuming content. Instead, I want to live a slower and more relaxed life in a warm country, with no plans to return.”

Kim Doo-young also revealed, “I’ve actually hinted at my immigration destination in my Instagram ID for the past seven years.” His Instagram handle, “Cebu Oppa,” suggests that he has moved to Cebu, Philippines.

He added, “Some of you may be surprised by this sudden news, but I have been preparing little by little for this dream life for a long time, and now the day has finally come.” Addressing speculation about his retirement, he stated, “Some people ask if this means I’m retiring or giving up comedy. My answer is—it’s a challenge.”

Furthermore, he expressed his plans, saying, “As soon as I arrive, I will document my local adaptation experiences through YouTube and engage in various activities, including travel-related businesses, to make use of my skills. Leaving Korea doesn’t mean I’m no longer a comedian.”

Meanwhile, Kim Doo-young debuted as an MBC comedian in 2006 as part of the 15th public recruitment class. He gained popularity through comedy programs such as MBC’s Gagya and Laugh and Laugh Again, and was also active on tvN’s Comedy Big League.
